Woman charged with drunk driving after police stop vehicle carrying

A 38-year-old London woman is charged with drunk driving after Aylmer police stopped a vehicle with children inside and a driver who blew nearly twice the legal limit.

A concerned resident contacted police to report a suspected impaired driver on Talbot Street, the town’s main street, at about noon Monday, Aylmer police said.

Officers found the vehicle and confirmed the driver was impaired by alcohol, Aylmer police said in a news release Tuesday.

“Two children under the age of 10 were also riding in the vehicle. The female was placed under arrest and transported to the Aylmer Police Service where she provided breath samples nearly double the legal limit,” Aylmer police said.

Police also found open alcohol and marijuana in the vehicle.

A 38-year-old London woman, whose identity was not released by Aylmer police, is charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, driving with a blood-alcohol level of 80 milligrams of booze in 100 milliliters of blood and having alcohol and marijuana readily accessible inside a vehicle.

Police say the children were turned over to the care of a relative.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
