You’re getting the best game series of all time thrown in on Steam right now

The best sci-fi epic of all time is being thrown at you on Steam right now. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is drastically reduced.

There are games that you quickly forget. Others are remembered for weeks. And very few games are so firmly anchored in your mind that you keep thinking about them years later and feel the urge to play them again every few years.

Just such a game series is the original “Mass Effect” trilogy. You’re literally getting them thrown at you on Steam right now. If you don’t add the series to your own collection now, it’s your own fault.

What is the Legendary Edition? In the broadest sense, the “Legendary Edition” is a “remaster” of the Mass Effect trilogy. The first part in particular has been revised, with nicer graphics and small gameplay improvements, so that the combat system feels largely comparable across all three games. Also, the customizations for your Commander Shepard have been improved so that he (or she) looks identical across all 3 games.

In addition, the Legendary Edition contains all the DLCs that were available for the games at the time and therefore add many hours of additional playtime.

Who is Mass Effect for? Basically for every fan of a good RPG with a deep story and great characters. Mass Effect offers numerous decisions with consequences, which often only come into play a game or two later and can have far-reaching consequences. In the best BioWare manner, you build relationships with a wide variety of characters, have romances if you want, or create archenemies.

There is only a “plot armor” for a few characters – some decisions can lead to the death of your fellow combatants, which further influences the story.

The whole thing is garnished with a combat system that combines the best elements of shooters and RPGs. You blast futuristic weapons while simultaneously hurling biotic abilities (basically “sci-fi spells”) or using stealth. There are hardly any limits to the customization of the character and your team.

How much does the game cost right now? Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is currently available on Steam for €15. So it’s reduced by a whopping 75%. You’ll have to hurry though – the offer is only valid until May 27th.

Even if you “rush through the story” you can expect well over 100 hours of gameplay here – and even more if you really exhaust every side mission and every DLC.

Author’s Opinion: A game you will never forget

I remember well that Mass Effect scared me off at first. When my roommate and all his friends were completely caught up in the hypetrain shortly before the release of part 3, I was quite confused. But I took the opportunity to get a taste of the first part – and after two hours I was hopelessly in love.

It’s rare that a game has captivated me so quickly and completely. The game world was not only action-packed and exciting, but I was also so enthusiastic that I even listened to “Codex entries” for several hours on individual aspects of the world – and you know yourselves how boring that actually is.

Commander Shepard’s journey through the galaxy and the fight against the ominous Reapers is rightly considered “the great sci-fi epic”, which is still celebrated by fans years later.

Mass Effect creates a brutal yet exciting vision of the future with different civilizations and moral orientations. Even after the seventh run, you will still find small details that change with certain decisions and result in a “rat tail” that leads to unknown events.

So if you have 15 euros on the high edge or just need a really good game for the long Pentecost weekend (and probably a few days beyond), grab Mass Effect and learn to love the world and its characters.

And while you’re at it, Liara sends my regards. She’s welcome to report back.
