Item returns after more than 2 years, brings with it serious bug that will help your opponents

Patch 13.10 was released in League of Legends last week with many item adjustments and 4 new items. Statikk’s Sting also returned to the rift after more than 2 years and causes a bug in your own minions with an interaction.

What happened? User refuzeiv posted a video on Reddit showing him using the passive ability from the returning item Statikk Shiv to kill his own minions. He does not get his own gold or experience.

Killing your own minions is not actually possible in LoL and would be a serious mistake, since you could deny your opponent farm and experience.

The bug needs a specific interaction

How can the bug happen? Riot employee Phreaks suspects a connection between supporter Renata Glasc’s Ultimate and Statikks Shiv’s Electroshock passive ability. Being the target of Renata Ulti causes you to fight and damage your own teammates for a short period of time.

After that, if you don’t trigger Statikk Shiv with an auto-attack, abilities can use the effect on friendly units. But only abilities that can interact with their own minions and trigger on-hit effects at the same time.

At MSI, a one-cookie error prompted a 30-minute hiatus and booed fans.

In the Reddit video, Katarina uses her E to jump onto her own Minions and Electroshock activates. But you also see how Renata gets the gold and experience of these minions, which speaks for the interaction with Renata.

If you deliberately use such bugs or exploits to win or to grief other players, you may be banned by Riot.

Will the bug be fixed? As Phreak writes under the post, he wants to fix the bug as soon as he has dealt more with the Energize mechanic.

He doesn’t see the problem as particularly urgent, since a specific combination of champions is needed to trigger the bug and it doesn’t always happen. Also, with the mistake, you’re more likely to help the opponent than yourself, since Renata gets the gold and experience.

Should you experience the bug, you can just do a fully charged Statikk Shiv auto-attack and the bug should go away.

The champion Tahm Kench had a more critical exploit in April that allowed him to spawn anywhere.
