  • Still no agreement on the US debt ceiling

    An agreement on the US debt ceiling has not yet been reached. Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy calls tonight’s negotiation with President Joe Biden “productive.”

    “We don’t have an agreement yet, but I felt the discussion was productive in areas where we have different views,” McCarthy said on his way out of the White House late Monday night, local time.

    If no agreement is reached before June 1, the US government risks suspending its payments. (TT)

  • Police are convicted of attempted fraud

    A police officer in Skåne is convicted of attempted fraud after trying to cheat his insurance company out of money, writes Sydsvenskan. The police will also lose their jobs as a result of the incident.

    SD politician suspected of serious child pornography offence

    An SD politician in northern Sweden is suspected of gross child pornography. He is both a member of the municipal council and the children and education committee in the municipality.

    SD’s district chairman in the area tells Aftonbladet that the party wants more information before taking any possible measures.

    The prosecutor requested that he be detained, but on Friday the district court rejected the request.

    The Russian Freedom Legion and Russian Volunteer Corps on Monday claimed responsibility for attacks from Ukraine across the border into Russia’s Belgorod region, according to Meduza magazine.

    Eight people were injured in the attacks, according to the area’s governor. The Kremlin announced during the day that the Russian army is acting to “wipe out Ukrainian sabotage groups” in the area.

    The Russian groups that claimed responsibility are fighting on the Ukrainian side, but Ukrainian officials maintain that Ukraine’s army was not involved.

  • Fire in the margarine factory

    There is a fire on the roof of Pellerin’s margarine factory in Olskroken in Gothenburg.

    According to Gothenburg Post is the Rescue Service on site with eight units.

    Vetlanda municipality has decided to close its contact center after a man was threatening several businesses, reports Vetlandaposten.

    – We have a threatening situation here in the municipality against various businesses, says communications manager Annelie Jönsson to the newspaper on Monday.

    The man is in his 40s. On Friday, he was arrested after staff called security guards, but was later released.

    On Monday he was back at the contact centre. Then the decision was made to close it.

    According to Annelie Jönsson, the threat must be linked to the man being dissatisfied with a decision.

    Nilsson was sentenced for the 15 eels he pulled up in September 2021. Then he was caught red-handed and eventually had to pay SEK 38,000 in fines.

    The preliminary investigation that has now been closed concerned suspected poaching since 2008. Apparently, not enough evidence was found to continue investigating.
