Three killed in Wallaceburg crash Sunday night

Three people were killed in a Wallaceburg crash Sunday night involving a car and a tanker truck, Chatham-Kent police say.

Just before 10 pm, emergency crews responded to the scene on McNaughton Avenue at Wallace Street.

The motorist, a 23-year-old Wallaceburg woman, was driving the car, which had four other occupants, on Wallace Street. Police said the vehicle entered onto McNaughton Avenue and collided with the tanker truck that was headed northbound on the roadway.

“The driver, along with a 24-year-old Wallaceburg man and a 24-year-old Wallaceburg woman, who were passengers, sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene,” police stated in a release Monday.

A 25-year-old Dover Township woman, who was also a passenger in the vehicle, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a London hospital in critical condition, police added.

The fourth passenger, a 22-year-old Wallaceburg woman, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

Police said the driver of the tanker truck suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

The traffic management unit has taken over the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Const. Josh Flikweert at [email protected] or 519-355-1092.
