The preliminary investigation against Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson’s (M) former state secretary PM Nilsson has been closed after the eel fishing scandal, reports Sveriges Radio.

He has previously been sentenced to a day’s fine after he was caught in the act in September 2021. However, there is no evidence that Nilsson has poached eel on several occasions – and therefore the preliminary investigation is closed, according to the radio.

Nilsson was handpicked to become Kristersson’s state secretary after the election last fall. He left the post at the end of January after it emerged that he poached eels and lied about it to the police.

He was then recruited to the think tank Timbro where he has been responsible for issues relating to climate, environment, city and countryside.

Nilsson was political editor at Di between 2013 and 2022.
