In addition to the famous Twilight books, from which a film series that is at least as famous arose, author Stephenie Meyer has also written a sci-fi novel. The 2008 book entitled The Host was also made into a movie in 2013.
The science fiction film Seelen, which runs on sixx on Monday at 8:15 p.m., failed to score well at the box office. Two planned sequels were therefore never realised.
Twilight author’s sci-fi franchise failed after part 1
The film is set in the future where humanity has been almost completely wiped out by an alien invasion. The so-called souls nest in the bodies of the victims and erase their consciousness. When resistance fighter Melanie (Saoirse Ronan) is infested by an alien and retains her consciousness, she befriends the alien invader. As a result, she eventually becomes the target of the seeker (Diane Kruger), who wants to transform the remaining humans.
At the box office, Souls didn’t become another Twilight hit. With a budget of $40 million, the sci-fi film starred Mojo, according to Box Office only around 63 million dollars worldwide and is therefore considered a heavy flop.
Even though the novel based on the film ended up on the New York Times bestseller list for a long time after its release, no new series from the Twilight author’s sci-fi universe was created. Stephenie Meyer planned according to her own statements two sequels to The Host called The Seeker and The Soul.
However, she has never written these books to this day. She may have lost interest in the science fiction franchise after the financially more than disappointing box office result of the first film adaptation.
