Only in December does the Swedish Transport Administration expect to be able to have sufficiently far ahead in its planning for train traffic. This means a continued risk of late notification of departures and tight deadlines for booking tickets for travelers. It also means late notification of the work schedule for train employees.
– Now we have said that we should be able to handle it when we enter a new train plan, and we will do that in December. Until then, we must work our way to better foresight already here and now, says Trafikverket director general Roberto Maiorana in Ekot’s Saturday interview.
A new digital planning system was introduced at the end of last year, but the anticipation of planned track works has not improved. According to the rules, the Swedish Transport Administration must give the train operators notice no later than 18 weeks in advance, but notices of departures can instead come a few days in advance.
– It is clear that we already understood at the time of introduction that this could present us with challenges, but it has presented us with greater challenges than we had expected, says Roberto Maiorana.
