A weapon in Destiny 2 was doing 40% more damage than intended for weeks – but nobody noticed

In Destiny 2, the Legendary Long Arm Scout Rifle was doing far too much damage for weeks. The weapon was accidentally enjoying a bonus that should only be granted to Exotic primary weapons. But that only became apparent when Bungie trumpeted the error in the blog post.

What is this weapon?

  • Long Arm is a Legendary Scout Rifle, an energy weapon that can be found in the Pillar of the Warden dungeon.
  • Scout Rifles are primary weapons in Destiny, used if you like shooting aliens in the face more deliberately and from a distance – sort of like toned-down sniper rifles for everyday use.

    What was the problem with the gun? Bungie has now revealed in the blog post that the weapon accidentally gets the damage bonus against opponents with red health bars that only exotic primary weapons normally have.

    So the weapon is currently actually 40% stronger against many enemies than it should have been.

    As PC Gamer points out, that should have made weapons the “mandatory metapick” for numerous activities, because then it was like being able to play with 2 exotic weapons.

    This is special: As PC Gamer notes, no one in the otherwise perceptive community seems to have noticed that Long Arm was much stronger than originally planned.

    One suspects that it could be because arc weapons in general and scout rifles in particular are not very popular at the moment and therefore nobody noticed it.

    In any case, the weapon will probably be played more often until its “nerf”, i.e. its correction on May 23rd, because Bungie will only “correct” this in the new season. So players can still have fun with it until Tuesday.

    The current topic on Reddit at the moment is that the kinetic automatic rifle “Workhorse” (“Sweet Business” ) will cause an explosion every 20 shots from Season 21 onwards. Guardians already fantasize about blowing up the sea.
