The world’s best pole vaulter is named Armand Duplantis and competes for Sweden. We should be extremely proud of that as Swedes and he continues to impress with every jump over the bar.
Duplanti’s success
Last season was incomparably good with WC gold both outdoors and indoors, EC gold outdoors, overall victory in the Diamond League and also several world records at that. History was made when he flew over 6.21 meters at the 2022 WC in Eugene and set a new world record that could also have been so much higher.

Because according to graphic measurements, “Mondo” was as high as 8.2 centimeters above the crossbar when he was closest to it. The 23-year-old now admits in an interview that he blacked out after the mighty jump and has no memory at all of the seconds that followed.

Mondo’s shock

But as number two, an old acquaintance suddenly appeared as a big surprise and gave Mondo a rock-hard high-five in the stands.
– He almost broke my hand. It was my best friend from high school in Louisiana. He appeared at the last second completely out of nowhere two days earlier. It was a really cool thing because he hadn’t seen me jump since high school, says Duplantis in an interview with the International Association of Athletics Federations, IAAF.

Talk about a real surprise for Armand Duplantis who just jumped higher than any other pole vaulter has ever done. Earlier this year, the Swedish star also managed to further improve his world record when he jumped 6.22m.
