Kinesiology offers different methods that work on muscle tone. It is particularly indicated to fight against stress. What is the role of a kinesiologist? When to consult it? What is the price of a session?
Little known to the general public, kinesiology has its origins in the principles of chinese philosophy as well as in the chiropractic. Kinesiology is a psycho-corporal technique which works on muscle tone. It identifies the source of the reasons that led the patient to consult a kinesiologist (stress, sleep disorders, burn-out etc). It is neither medicine nor therapy. What is kinesiology? What is the role from a kinesiologist? What are the benefits about health ?
Definition: what is kinesiology?
“Kinesiology is a psycho-corporal technique based on muscle tone to identify stress, blockages and unresolved emotional charges, explains Thierry Waymel, kinesiologist and President of the French Federation of Kinesiology. This discipline allows to question the body through precise muscular tests. These then lead the practitioner to identify the source of discomfort or tension (physical, psychic, emotional, biochemical, even postural), release the emotional charge associated with the stressor, then to regain balance.” Kinesiology does not treat in the medical sense: it is therefore not neither a medicine nor a therapy. It accompanies the client to manage stress better.
A kinesiologist does not make a diagnosis.
What is the role of a kinesiologist?
During the first session, the kinesiologist sets up and clarifies the framework of his interventions: he helps the person to define his work objective, to discern its criteria of success and what hinders it. Finally, he realizes the muscle test. “The sessions require a commitment from the person, help in this by the kinesiologist who will ask his questions out loud, point out the response to the muscle test, so that the person is well aware that it is a dialogue with herself”, specifies Thierry Waymel. On the other hand, a kinesiologist does not make a diagnosis: it does not treat, does not cure, does not heal. It never replaces a medical authority. He receives clients and never encourages them to stop medical treatment. Finally, he is not a prescriber.
Kinesiology is not regulated. Anyone can become a kinesiologist. “The French Federation of Kinesiology, created in 1992, structures the profession and requires its members to have followed a training of at least 600 hours of face-to-face teaching in one of the affiliated schools, and to sign a code of ethics as well as a code of conduct”, says our expert. The principles of kinesiology are widely used in France by physiotherapists as well as by specialists in sports medicine.
When to see a kinesiologist?
Kinesiology is for those who live stress that unbalances them. Kinesiology can be practiced as a preventive measure.
What are the benefits of kinesiology?
“Kinesiology works through three principles that make up the human being: the structural domain (muscles, bones, organs, …), biochemical (metabolism, nutrition, relation to the environment, …) and psychic (emotions, stress, beliefs, …), explains the kinesiologist. The idea is to promote movements between these domains, thus stimulating the homeostasis of each of them.” The reasons for consultation are varied: grief, divorcestress, lack of self-esteem, sleeping troubles, depression, baby project, passing an exam, weight gain, burn-out, speaking in public, phobias, school or professional learning…
Is kinesiology effective?
Different solutions are proposed during the session. “It can be acupressure pointsstimulation of reflex points, eye movementss, emotional release, explains the expert. The benefits are then assessed by muscle testing then anchored. These 4 steps are necessary to anchor the balances. During any session, the consultant is always dressed and conscious ; he also participates in understanding his blockages.”
How much does a kinesiology session cost?
For a session, count on average 60 euros for one hour. Kinesiology is not not reimbursed by Social Security. However, some mutuals sometimes reimburse this technique: do not hesitate to inquire with your organization. To find a kinesiologist, contact the national federations or trust by word of mouth.
