Middle-earth is divided. Not because a dark ruler is up to mischief in the fantasy world. no, the Rights to JRR Tolkien’s work are widely scattered. While Warner is still in charge of cinema, Amazon recently brought the extremely lavish series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power into position.
Although the individual projects are very similar, they form no contiguous franchise. The challenge came from Warner in February when the studio announced plans to bring new Lord of the Rings films to theaters. Now Amazon is countering this. The group wants to create the ultimate Lord of the Rings universe.
Amazon’s Ultimate Lord of the Rings Universe: After The Rings of Power comes a video game
Five seasons of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power are already planned. Not to mention various spin-off options, which are now considered in every major project based on a popular brand. As Deadline reports, Amazon wants to extend its Lord of the Rings power arm even further.

Developed by Amazon Games a new Middle-earth video game. Specifically, it is an MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) that takes the events from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit as a basis. Amazon claims the fantasy brand, which is still in demand, both in the series and in the video game area.
However, the story of Amazon Games is not a straightforward one. The shooter Crucible was released in 2020 and discontinued a few months later. The MMO New World caused a great rush on the Steam gaming platform when it was launched, but then sank for the time being “in insignificance”, as the specialist magazine GameStar writes . The player numbers have since recovered at least partially thanks to game updates.
Amazon wanted to release a Lord of the Rings game years ago – and didn’t do it
On the subject of Lord of the Rings as a game, however, there is an ugly history on Amazon. A comparable MMO was announced in 2019 before the Middle-earth project pulled the plug two years later became. After the studio, with which the group wanted to develop the game together, was bought, the cooperation became “very complicated”, especially for licensing reasons. Amazon pulled the ripcord – and now seems to want to try again. Hopefully with better results.
As appealing as the prospect of an immersive, multi-media narrated Lord of the Rings experience is, unlike the Warner films, it’s rock solid anchored in pop culture memory Amazon’s Middle-earth version has yet to prove it will stand the test of time. Whether as a series like The Rings of Power or as an online game.
