The Sweden Democrats want to investigate how Sweden can prevent more power being transferred to the EU, write Jimmie Åkesson and Charlie Weimers at SvD Debatt.

The party wants to see three measures to “maximize Sweden’s influence” in the EU. Including a “referendum lock”.

“This is a law that stipulates that all significant transfers of power or new or greater demands for payments must first be approved in a referendum,” they write.

Åkesson and Weimers also want the Swedish parliament and the government to be prepared to leave the EU – among other things by removing writings in the constitution that state that Sweden is a member of the union.

“Such preparedness should not necessarily be seen as a preparation to actually leave, but rather as a signal to counterparties in future negotiations that there is a limit to what can be accepted.”

They also want an investigation to analyze whether previous governments have overimplemented EU directives.
