Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has had an intense travel schedule lately. Several visits to Europe have led to promises of more and heavier weapons.
– It was a very successful trip for the Ukrainian president, says TV4 Nyheternas broadcast reporter Jona Källgren on location in Odessa, Ukraine.
On May 13, Zelenskyi landed in Rome to meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Pope Francis.
On Twitter, the Ukrainian president described how important the then-imminent visit was.
“An important visit to bring us closer to a victory in Ukraine”.
The tour continues
The next day, May 14, Zelensky appeared in the German capital, Berlin. After the meeting with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, a new, large weapons package was presented that will be available to the Ukrainian forces within the next few months. The total value of the package corresponds to approximately SEK 31 billion.
– From the German side, it was decided to prepare the largest military package that has been made to Ukraine so far, with Leopard 1 tanks, artillery systems, drones and air defense systems, says Jona Källgren.
Just hours later, the Ukrainian president landed in the French capital, Paris. At a dinner with President Emmanuel Macron, among other things, the Ukrainian counter-offensive was discussed.
Offensive drones
On Monday, it was Britain’s turn to be visited by the Ukrainian president. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced after their joint meeting that a new weapons package was hammered out.
Britain will supply Ukraine with hundreds of long-range drones and defense robots, according to Sunak.
– This is not something that will be used in the expected spring offensive, but rather this is material that will be used this fall after this expected offensive, says Källgren.
