Susanne Stålhammar in Köpingebro has southern Scania’s most beautiful dialect. This after being named the winner in the dialect competition organized by Trelleborgs- and Ystads Allehanda.

“Scania may be small on the surface, but big in both heart and dialects” was how it sounded when Trelleborg’s Allehanda called for the battle for southern Scania’s most beautiful dialect. And now the newspapers Trelleborgs Allehanda and Ystads Allehanda have together named a winner.
– My Scanian dialect and I am happy and bubbly. It could be a combination, says Susanne Stålhammar about what was behind the win.
Big commitment
The commitment to the competition has been great, according to Peter Ottosson at Trelleborgs Allehanda. Readers from Scania’s south coast, all the way from Vellinge to Simrishamn, have sent in nominations.
– The readers have been allowed to nominate themselves or someone else who they think has a really nice dialect. Then we have selected finalists and now the readers have voted for a finalist, says Peter Ottosson.
Rough language
According to the winner Susanne, she often receives appreciative comments about her dialect.
– They comment that I’m rough in my language and it’s probably just to realize that. I can’t do anything to change that, says Susanne Stålhammar and laughs.
