33 civilians killed in Burkina Faso

At least 33 civilians were killed in an attack in western Burkina Faso, says the governor of the Boucle du Mouhoun region.

Burkina Faso is one of the world’s poorest countries and has been ravaged since 2015 by an insurgency led by militant extremists with links to the terrorist groups IS and al-Qaeda.

The country is ruled by a military junta after a coup just over a year ago, but the junta has so far failed to push back the militant jihadists.
