Six wild lions that attacked livestock during the night of Saturday have been killed by herders in a national park in Kenya.

The lions were killed a day after a 19-year-old lion, believed to be the world’s oldest lion in the wild, was speared to death on the edge of Amboseli National Park.

“A total of ten lions have been killed in Amboseli since last week,” the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) announced in a press release.

The organization adds that it has started a dialogue with various parties about the events.

“The discussion is focused on finding solutions to reduce the risk of human-wildlife conflicts, as well as finding early warning systems to alert people to the presence of a wild animal,” explains KWS.

In recent years, the number of wild animals where humans live has increased due to cities displacing old migration and hunting grounds.

According to Kenya’s first animal population survey conducted in 2021, the number of lions in the country is estimated at approximately 2,500.
