Kouri Richins from Utah in the USA wrote a children’s book with her sons about the grief after her husband’s death. Now she is charged with having poisoned him with fentanyl herself, reports CNN.
In questioning, Kouri Richins, 33, says that she invited her husband, Eric Richins, 39, to a “Moscow mule” drink to celebrate a deal that went bust at work. She then went to bed with their sons. Later that night, she found her husband dead on the floor.
The incident took place in Utah, USA, in March last year.
Just over a year later, Kouri Richins published the children’s book “Are you with me”, which is described as being about how to get through grief after losing someone you love.
Talked about the grief on TV
A month ago, Kouri Richins appeared on local television station ABC4 to talk about her new book. She said that her three sons had helped her write the book, so that they themselves would have the opportunity to express their feelings about the loss.
But a few weeks ago she was arrested, and is now charged with being behind the murder of Eric Richins, according to court documents seen by CNN.
The arrest came after the autopsy report showed that the man had five times the lethal dose of the drug fentanyl in his body.
Asked for the “Michael Jackson stuff”
On several occasions, Kouri Richins is said to have illegally bought fentanyl from an acquaintance. The person who supplied Kouri Richins with the drugs recounts one occasion when she asked to buy “some of the Michael Jackson stuff.”
It would also appear that the husband Eric Richins, before the suspected murder, sensed trouble.
The court documents describe how the couple had dinner on Valentine’s Day. After dinner, Erik fell ill and he is said to have told a friend that he thought his wife was trying to poison him.
A few years earlier, Eric had described the same concern to his sister during the couple’s holiday in Greece, after falling ill after a drink.
Made changes to life insurance
Kouri Richins also allegedly tried to make changes to a life insurance policy she had taken out with her business partner.
At the same time, Eric Richins also made changes to his personal life insurance policy without his wife’s knowledge, to make his sister the beneficiary.
Custody hearings are scheduled to be held on May 19.
