If you are not attractive, you will not get any viewers

Asmongold is one of the biggest streamers on Twitch and has been around forever. So he should be well versed in how the streaming platform works. He thinks: external appearances play a huge role, even if nobody wants to admit it.

Which streamer is it? Asmongold has happily embodied the cliché of an MMORPG player on Twitch for years: he streams from his chaos room, avoids the sunlight and has long, somewhat unkempt hair. The streamer doesn’t take himself too seriously and doesn’t stop at jokes about his appearance.

A popular running gag in the Asmongold community is therefore the growing receding hairline of the streamer. If you look at his clips channel on YouTube, you will find countless videos that talk about his hairline.

So some would say that they are not necessarily in a position to judge the looks of others. Nevertheless, Asmongold is one of the biggest streamers on Twitch and one of the best-known content creators in the MMORPG sector. In a recent stream, he now shared his wisdom with his viewers.

Streamer thinks they know why others are not successful

What does Asmongold have to say? In a May 9th stream, Asmongold spoke about smaller streamers and the growth of their channels. His buddy Mizkif had taken up the topic shortly before and was offended with his opinion that small streamers are to blame if the viewers stay away.

Asmongold upped the ante, explaining that small streamers are often just not worth watching:

A lot of streamers have low viewership because they’re lousy streamers: they’re boring as hell and there’s no reason to watch them. They don’t know how to stream, they’re bad at games, they’re not funny or entertaining, they’re not hot.

The streamer even goes one step further: his fans could point him to talented but unknown content creators and he could tell them exactly why they didn’t have more viewers. He wouldn’t do that though: it would make him look like an ass.

Asmongold shares an ‘uncomfortable truth’

What reason does Asmongold suspect? As the streamer explains, appearances matter a lot on Twitch, which is the “awkward, shitty truth”.

The thing is, if you’re ugly, people won’t like you. And that’s even truer for girls. So if you’re really fat or really ugly, it doesn’t matter how funny you are, people just won’t like you. They don’t want to see you.

In fact, it is noticeable that the comparatively few successful women on Twitch are mostly conventionally attractive, while the same standards do not always seem to apply to their male colleagues. After all, Asmongold himself doesn’t exactly embody the masculinity ideal of a well-trained guy with a full head of hair.

Big streamers like Imane “Pokimane” Anys have learned to deal with it somehow. In a recent interview, however, the 26-year-old revealed that at the beginning of her career she was surprised at how much misogyny she had to deal with:
