Pijpers realizes through the conversations with the activist that the university has approached the word too legally: “Utrecht University itself is not in a state of emergency, but we see that there is a real state of emergency in some places in the world due to climate problems. That is why from now on we choose to speak about a ‘climate emergency’ in our communication in order to make Utrecht University’s position with regard to climate change even more explicit, and thus to match the words that are commonly used in society” Piper said.
