Will the next Android 14 update really make it possible to track your smartphone even when it is turned off?

Will the next Android 14 update really make it possible

The next update for your Android smartphone should arrive in a few months. Among the new features planned, Google would include an option to locate your smartphone even if it is completely off.

This is one of the most anticipated novelties on Android smartphones. The next update of Android 14 which will arrive at the end of 2023 should make it possible to find its phone even if it is turned off. An addition that is far from unanimous, especially since this update should also integrate satellite connectivity in order to always be able to have a network on your device.

Will Android 14 allow you to track your smartphone permanently?

The ability to locate your Android smartphone, even after it’s turned off, isn’t a big surprise in itself. Apple has already benefited from this option on its iPhones since 2021 and the integration of iOS 15. It is thus possible for an iPhone user to locate and follow the position of his device even if the latter is not connected to the internet or simply alight.

The next Android 14 update presented this Wednesday, May 10 would therefore provide for the addition of this functionality on Android smartphones. Called “Pixel Power-off Finder”, this function should, at first, only apply to Pixel phones from Google.

There is no doubt that in the event of good results, the firm should try to work with other manufacturers such as Samsung, Oppo and many others to offer this functionality on all Android devices. It is however important to note that this function of “locate your device” should require the use of a Google account or another way to prove that you are indeed the owner of the smartphone sought.
