“That’s a big key”

Hanna Öberg had a real super season.
Now the Swedish WC queen reveals the secret behind.
– It gives greater security and greater self-confidence, she says to länðig.se.

The Swedish national biathlon team is currently in Mallorca for a training camp. Preparations are already underway for the upcoming season and the big star Hanna Öberg is in place after his matchless season last time.

Öberg’s success

Because it’s hard not to stay in what a fantastic winter the 27-year-old actually had. She started the season in the best way by winning the distance race in Kontiolahti in Finland and the following day also the relay race during the World Cup premiere of biathlon.

But then a tougher period awaited Öberg, who lost confidence and joy in the sport. It was a difficult period over Christmas and New Year, but when the Biathlon World Cup was held in German Oberhof, Hanna found her way back to great form again.

WC queen

Hanna Öberg exceeded all expectations and won double WC gold, a WC silver and a WC bronze. She was crowned WC Queen for her amazing efforts and showed the whole world what a skilled skater and shooter she is in her best moments.
— After I came back from the illness at Christmas and New Year, I managed to have a rising form all the way to the WC and it is clear that it gives good self-confidence. And I also thought it was so much fun to compete, she says in an interview with lånding.se.

She found her joy again and can now take this confidence into the new season.
– I had high motivation even a year ago. But then I came from a season where I hadn’t been able to do it in the same way. Then I wanted a fresh start in terms of shooting. Now it’s a little different; I still have great areas of development. But I also know that I do a lot of good things, and that gives me greater security and greater self-confidence. I am in a good position, admits Öberg.

The secret

Hanna Öberg also reveals the secret behind why it went as well as it did during the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof.
– What I found back to during the second half of last season was joy; how fun I think it is. Also, I put less pressure on myself, which is a big key in above all shooting. In the past, I have seen the consequences of what I do instead of concentrating on what I have to do. Now I was more in the moment, and it’s easier if you go into the competitions with a curious attitude. That you go in and do your best and then you get to see how far it goes, this instead of driving around thinking that I know I’m going that fast; then it means that if I shoot si, it ends like this, the 27-year-old says in the interview.

After the superb season that has been, there is now a clear goal for the coming winter.
– Biathlon is a complex sport with many parts, so I rather look at the performance than the results. But with that said, I want to go to as many competitions as possible in the World Cup, and also get to the top of my form for the WC. Then I learned last year that it is not always possible to decide the plan in advance, or at least be prepared to revise it. But I know I have a good foundation; and I start getting paid for the routine I built up. It’s a security for what lies ahead, says Hanna Öberg to the winter sports site.
