Tillsonburg’s 35th annual Youth Unlimited YFC Golf Tournament will tee off Saturday, June 3 at 1 pm at the Otter Creek Golf Club,
“It’s a great golf course with a beautiful clubhouse,” said Rayburn Lansdell, Tillsonburg YFC director. “The course is a nice trek.”
Last year just over 100 golfers participated in the annual fundraising event.
The 18-hole team scramble also includes on-course contests, lunch and dinner, and prizes and knowing you are supporting the local Upper Deck youth center and the work Youth Unlimited does in the community, which had its start in Tillsonburg.
“Some golfers say they’re not here for the prizes, some say they’re not even here for the golf. They’re here for the kids. I think a lot of people do come because they want to support the kinds of things that hopefully are helping to make a difference in the lives of young people” said Lansdell.
“We’ve got some foursomes that have been coming since I’ve been involved, at least 25-30 years, so you have some repeat attendees and over the last couple of years we’ve seen a lot of new foursomes coming in. ”
The business community has been tremendously supportive, he said. Last year they had 31 corporate sponsors and one company, new to the Tillsonburg YFC’s golf tournament, sent three teams. This year another new sponsor is sending three foursomes. Some companies sponsor holes and/or carts, but do not send golfers.
“When we were coming up to our 28th29th tournaments we were struggling to get 60 golfers. Then we had a little blip upwards, then COVID. In 2021, we came back with our first live golf tournament (after restrictions lifted) and we had 80-90 golfers. Last year it grew to about 108 golfers. So it’s a good day, a fun day.”
Otter Creek Golf Club is located at 275 James Street, Otterville. The practice range will be available 11 am-12:30 pm prior to a shotgun tee time at 1 pm
“There is a nice buffet dinner afterwards (6 pm) and some nice prizes available to be won.”
