Rome 2023: Djokovic and Alcaraz present, the tables

Rome 2023 Djokovic and Alcaraz present the tables

This is the last tournament of the season on clay before Roland Garros. Many headliners are expected on the Roman courts with Djokovic, Alcaraz or Swiatek and Sabalenka for women. Rafael Nadal will be absent from the table.

The Masters 1000 in Rome (May 10-21) is the last major preparation before Roland Garros (May 28-June 11). The main favorites will tread the Roman soil this week with a possible first duel in the final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. The first two in the world find themselves in the same table for the first time in 2023. The young Spaniard is even preparing to overtake the Serbian in the ATP ranking. To achieve this, he just needs to win a match in the Foro Italico. The men’s draw is however marked by the absence of the 10 times winner of the tournament, Rafael Nadal.

Among the women, last year’s finalist, Ons Jabeur will not be in Italy either. However, a rivalry seems to be emerging on the women’s circuit. This is the duel between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek. The two main seeds have reached the final of the last two clay court tournaments (Stuttgart and Madrid) with one victory each. They remain to be the great favorites of this painting. However, beware of last-minute surprises. Last week, Mayar Sheriff and the very young player Mirra Andreeva surprised everyone by advancing to the quarter-finals and the round of 16.

The women’s draw begins this Tuesday, May 9 with the surprising Mayar Sheriff in the running. But qualifying is not yet complete in the men’s and women’s rounds which are due to end today.
