Norfolk OPP are investigating after flowers were stolen from graves at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Officers went to the cemetery at Fourteenth Street West in Simcoe after receiving a call May 4 just after 10 am Upon arrival, police discovered that flowers had been removed from various sites on the property.

Police are reminding residents to call them at 1-888-310-1122 to report suspicious behavior or 911 if there is a crime in progress.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave an anonymous online message at www.helpsolvecrime.com to become eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.

Trailer stolen

A white 2011 26-foot Rockwood trailer worth $10,000 was stolen from a Norfolk County residence, police say.

The trailer was taken from a Highway 24 West, South Walsingham address. The theft was reported to Norfolk OPP on May 4 just before 4 pm and is believed to have taken place sometime between November 2022 and May 4, 2023, police said.

Stunt driving load

A19-year-old man from Powassan, Ontario faces several charges including one of stunt driving, following a May 5 incident.

Norfolk OPP stopped a vehicle just before 11 pm at a Cockshutt Road, Townsend address. The driver was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Police have charged the driver with failing or refusing to provide a breath sample, stunt driving – excessive speed, speeding, novice driving with a blood alcohol level above zero and being a young driver with a blood alcohol level above zero.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe at a future date.

Powasson is near North Bay, ON.

odd charge

A 33-year-old Norfolk County man faces charges following a single-vehicle collision at a St. John’s Road East address.

Norfolk OPP were sent to the scene of the collision at about 4:45 pm May 5. Upon arrival, officers arrested and then charged the driver with careless driving and driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.

The legal limit for motorists in Ontario is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood.

The driver is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe at a future date.
