The 2nd season of Amazon’s big fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is currently being filmed. And even if this does not happen without creative losses in the course of the current writers’ strike, Middle-earth fans should at least be happy about one leaked piece of news: the Return of Frodo’s most sinister foe.
Giant spider Shelob is to pay a visit to Season 2 of Lord of the Rings
In addition to new characters, Amazon’s next Lord of the Rings season should also bring back old acquaintances: The Fellowship of Fans fan site, known for its mostly reliable leaks, claims to have learned that in the 2nd season of The Rings of Power a short guest appearance by Shelob (in English: Shelob) is coming up. So from that giant spider that guards the pass of Cirith Ungol, where Gollum leads Frodo and Sam to Mordor.

Sauron, the Balrog, and the Ringwraiths are all in their own way unsettling foes in Middle-earth. But not only people who fear spiders would probably agree that the monster spider Shelob has a special terror when she attacks the ring bearer to Howard Shore’s unmistakable musical theme. In the Lord of the Rings series, set thousands of years before Frodo’s mission, we shall have a younger version of the eight-legged danger.
In Tolkien Shelob is the last daughter of the “light eater” Ungoliant, who once destroyed the light of the trees in the immortal lands of the elves. Although Shelob was not born in Beleriand until the Second Age of Middle-earth, she was in Mordor before Sauron. Since the titular Lord of the Rings entered his new home at the end of Season 1, we can almost certainly assume that Season 2 will see a Meeting between Sauron and his eventual spider watchdog will come. But even a hero believed dead has a good chance of encountering them.
When does The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 start on Amazon Prime?
The 2nd season of The Rings of Power is scheduled for release later this year 2024 come to Amazon Prime*. A concrete start for the Lord of the Rings return is not yet known.
