An emergency manager at a prison stole money from at least five safes where prisoners’ belongings are stored. Just over 24,000 kroner was missing and the man has been dismissed and prosecuted, writes the newspaper Arbetsvärlden.
In February this year, a prisoner wanted to take money out of his locker before a visit, but then it was discovered that the money was gone.
A correctional officer – also the emergency manager and one of three people who had a key to the lockers – soon admitted to stealing money from a total of five safes.
A total of SEK 24,430 was missing. But the man has also previously stolen money.
He was immediately removed from duty, reported to the police and has now been fired.
The authority’s HR department writes that it is “of great importance for the Probation Service’s credibility and ability to carry out its mission that the correctional officers who are employed within the operation refrain from committing crimes themselves”.
The man has also been charged with theft.
