Twitch streamer Disguised Toast founded his own e-sports team. But nothing is going really well right now. He himself begins to question his decisions.
What is this team? Twitch streamer Disguised Toast, native name Jeremy Wang, founded a new esports team in Valorant in early 2023. For this he invested a lot of money and bought strong and well-known stars.
Everything went well in the beginning as the team won all the matches in the open qualifiers. But things have been looking a lot worse since then: In the current tournament, they suffered seven defeats in a row, and the team in Valorant is now on the verge of relegation. And that also hits the owner of the team hard.
Disguised Toast is dissatisfied and doubts his ideas for the first time
How does the boss react? Disguised Toast is quite concerned about how his team is doing. He apologized on Twitter for his team’s poor performance.
Apologies to all DSG fans for our recent performances. Esports was definitely one of the most difficult experiences I’ve had in my career. I’ve always been pretty confident about my content, but for the first time in a long time I have a lot of doubts about my decisions.
He adds that he hasn’t had much experience with an eSports team. Because here completely new tasks would come up to him. He also had to make decisions about the livelihoods of the players he hired. With every defeat, the pressure on him and his team would increase and make difficult decisions.
Nevertheless, he makes it clear:
I have no regrets getting into the field. I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved in the short time we’ve been here and I’m still looking forward to the future.
But in general, things are not looking rosy in e-sports either. Because after 10 years, the sport is in a big crisis.
E-sport is in a serious crisis in 2023, one speaks of the “e-sport winter”
How about other teams? Things are not going quite smoothly in e-sports at the moment. Teams and companies file for bankruptcy in 2023, scenes break up, many employees in e-sports are laid off overnight, money is missing everywhere. Many are already talking about the “e-sports winter”.
You notice that especially in the USA, where professional teams have to throw a number of teammates on the street because there is simply no more money. LoL teams are considering selling their slots and switching to other themes.
E-sport is an expensive field, and that was already evident in Germany. For example, German football clubs such as Schalke or Hertha BSC have withdrawn from e-sports after starting with great enthusiasm:
