Steam: Valve brings 2 important, long-awaited features

Valve has for the platform Steam several improvements on offer. The interface will change soon and on top of that a better search system for the shop has been introduced. The best thing about it: You can already try out one feature.

Valve continues to work diligently on its popular Steam gaming platform and keeps bringing new features for users. Two major updates have now been presented within a week:

  • On the one hand, the Steam interface should be improved. Simpler menus, more information with fewer clicks. Overall, many useful improvements.
  • On the other hand, Valve has introduced an update for the shop to give players more options for searching.
  • The improved search is already integrated in the shop and you can try it out immediately.

Optimized search lets you filter by developers and tags

What has been improved? You can now filter for specific items on the Steam Shop page. There is now a direct search for tags, developers and publishers, and you can also search for specific categories or filter out “Early Access” games.

On top of that, the search system copes better with typos. If you prefer to write “Division 2” instead of “Division 2”, then Steam can still assign your search correctly.

However, there is one restriction: the developer or the publisher must have set up a shop page so that this special developer page also appears in the search.

Steam client improvements already available in beta

Which functions should follow? The overlay in the game, which you normally open with Shift+Tab, will be completely revised. The overlay was originally designed to provide a quick way to chat with friends. With the latest update there is a completely new interface, which also provides a number of new functions:

  • With the toolbar you can adapt the interface to your wishes
  • You can now write notes and even pin them in-game. If you are looking for a specific quest, you can pin the solution as a note.
  • In addition, the notifications should be improved and simplified.
  • On top of that, there is better screenshot management.
  • And users of macOS and Linux can also be happy: in the future, the client should run much more smoothly thanks to hardware acceleration.
  • When is the Steam update coming? No date is known yet. However, you can already try out the improvements with the Steam beta client. It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks for the updates to be distributed to everyone.
