Let’s tell it like it is: The first trailer for Dune: Part Two (in the player above this text here) is perhaps a fascinating mix of allusions to those familiar with the book template, which iconic storylines we find in the Sequel to the sci-fi epic expect. However, for those who haven’t read Dune for a while, or who were only introduced to the world of the desert planet through Dune, the trailer is more of a confused sci-fi moodboard.
Atmospherically and visually incredibly interesting? Absolutely. In places more question marks than hype generating? Oh god yes. Which is not least due to all the new characters. We have the most important questions and first theories collected for the Dune 2 trailer. (With a wink, of course.)
Timothée Chalamet and Deaf Sandworms: The Dune 2 trailer is full of confusing details and we have questions
1. Is Dune part 2 a teen romantic comedy, or why do we get multiple scenes of Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya trying hard to flirt and one of Javier Bardem joking about teenage recklessness with the Messiah of Arrakis?
2. In general: Has the first Dune film not lived up to expectations economically so that you now want to reach new target groups? That’s why the first trailer for Dune: Part Two looks like it is edited from at least 3 different films been?
3. What is that glowing red hole at second 47 that looks like a high tech finger oven? An evolved twist on the pain box Paul Atreides has to put his hand in in the first film? Or just an unnecessarily sinister looking one Opening device for the strange sci-fi portalthrough which team Timothée subsequently progresses?
4. After Zendaya in Part 1, is Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan the new narrator in the film and if so, can this tweet be right please?

5. Are sandworms only ridden or can they also be used for other purposes in everyday life? To take returnable bottles away, for strange sexual… Ah, sorry, of course we don’t want to spoil upcoming Dune storylines!
6. Is Lady Jessica’s (Rebecca Ferguson) face paint another mysterious Bene Gesserit thing that’s poorly explained? Does Paul’s mother Cloud have rap ambitions? Or is she just fell asleep drunk at the last Fremen party?
7. If the sandworms are worshiped by the Fremen, isn’t it kind of disrespectful to lure them out and ram hooks into their bodies? Are there animal rights organizations on Arrakis?
8. If not, wouldn’t that be a nice one Sub-plot for Zendaya’s character Chani?
9. Speaking of which, will Chani get to do anything else in the film other than stare in awe at Paul?
10. If smartphones existed in the Dune universe, would Princess Irulan be the type of person to send two-minute voice messages instead of writing three sentences and infuriating everyone around her? She looks like this!
11. And last Irulan question, I promise: did Florence Pugh buy her metal headdress from the Dune version of Vinted, or did the film crew just not feel like coming up with their own design?

12. In the world of Dune, are all really important conflicts settled with small knives? If yes why?
13. Dave Bautista has already confirmed that, for once, Austin Butler will no longer speak like Elvis for Dune 2. So what’s the next step in method acting for the Oscar-nominated actor? Will his Dune character Feyd-Rautha become his new personality and will he cause fear and terror in Hollywood in the future with his white-painted bald head and general serial killer-from-the-cell look?
14. The Harkonnen homeworld, Giedi Prime, appears to be entirely black and white in Dune: Part Two. How does this work? Do they only get colored once they leave their homeworld? Is it like Thor 4: Love and Thunderwhich we have all already repressed?
15. Does every world in the Dune universe have a different color saturation and is that why there are no graphic designers?
As a reminder, this is what the first short teaser for Dune: Part Two looked like
Dune 2 – Teaser Trailer (English) HD
16. The sandworm issue bothers me: Wouldn’t it make more sense and be less painful if Paul using his mind control abilities to ride worms? Or can sandworms not hear?
17. Can worms even hear? Science says: Some do.
18. How long did it take 5,000 Fremen to stand in the dangerously intense sun before Paul finally climbed the rock to give his heroic speech?
19. Where is Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV? Do you save his grand entrance for the cinema and have him crash through some surface dramatically like the worm in Dune 1?
20. And last, but not least: Yes, Austin Butler was cast as Feyd-Rautha. But we still get it somehow Sting in metal underpants under? Maybe as an easter egg for fans of David Lynch’s Dune? PLEASE!
The most important Dune question of all: when will part 2 of the sci-fi blockbuster be in cinemas?
It’s planned German theatrical release from Dune: Part Two for the November 2, 2023. The first part of the fantasy series celebrated its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, which traditionally takes place at the end of August/beginning of September. However, this is not planned for part 2 – so we will probably have to wait a little longer for first impressions of the complete film.
