She sought medical attention for severe hip pain.
Instead of a thorough investigation, the woman was given iron supplements and told to do more physical therapy.
At another medical center, a cancer tumor “as big as a fist” was found, according to the family’s report to Ivo – and their mother died just a month after the diagnosis.
It was in January 2021 that the woman visited the health center for the first time, writes Vetlandaposten. The woman, a resident of Eksjö municipality, then had a lot of pain in both her stomach and hip, as well as low blood levels, for which she was treated with a blood transfusion and iron injections.
However, according to the woman’s relatives, who reported the incident to Ivo, the doctor never investigated the reason for the pain, or why their mother did not get better. On return visits, the listless woman should have received more iron supplements – and a promise to “do more physical therapy”, her relatives write in the report.
Got in debt
Vetlandaposten quotes:
“She asked for help many times at the health center because she was so affected by her bad mood, both the pain and the fact that she had no energy because she could not oxygenate herself due to the poor blood count”.
The woman, who, according to the report, was charged because she asked for more painkillers, finally changed medical centers – and her new doctor was immediately concerned. The woman was x-rayed and the tumor, which according to the woman’s relatives was “as big as a fist”, was found in her pelvic floor.
The cancer spread
Vetlandaposten writes that the cancer had spread to, among other things, the femur, hip, kidney and liver. On August 10, 2022, one month after the cancer diagnosis, the woman died.
The woman’s family believes that her first doctor did not take the pain seriously.
“It is not possible to know whether it would have been possible to cure the cancer if it had been discovered earlier, but it is likely that it could at least have been slowed down, which would have given her more time in life and less pain,” they write in their report to Ivo.
