Honkai: Star Rail is the new game from Genshin developer HoYoverse. Similar to Genshin Impact, the new sci-fi RPG relies on gacha mechanics. A Reddit user extensively tested how F2P-friendly these mechanics are during the release week.
Honkai: Star Rail was released last week and Reddit user Gotruto also dedicated his time to the newly released space role-playing game. Lack of sleep included, he wanted to see how much a F2P player could get out of the gacha system.
Here you can see the release trailer for Honkai: Star Rail
What exactly did he do? Gotruto summed up what he’s accomplished in a Reddit post:
With daily and weekly missions and login bonuses, he was able to pull the banners, characters and items 280 times. If you had wanted to pull this number with money on the banners, it would correspond to several 100 euros. Accordingly, a considerable sum that you can save as a F2P player.
Gotruto feels the gacha system is generous with these results in Honkai: Star Rail and didn’t want to deprive other players of his experience.
With so much praise, one shouldn’t forget that Gotruto grinded extremely. For all his successes he played more than 55 hours, i.e. more than 8 hours a day between release and his post.
Like MeinMMO editor Marie Friske, Gotruto has taken the game to his heart and describes how much he enjoyed the time with the characters, but also in the subreddit.
What do the comments say about his result? The Reddit community doesn’t see the gacha systems that positively. Although many users give tips on how to get rewards elsewhere, some criticism remains.
Reddit user Rulutieh notes that it’s important to remember that many of the rewards are one-time only. It’s too early to appreciate just how generous the game is […] will be. Important are the things that reset every day, week, month.
While users like HeathenMonk thank him, they also beg him to go to sleep.
Outside of the game there is also the possibility to get some rewards through codes. MeinMMO has compiled the current codes for Honkai: Star Rail for you in May.
