Waterford District High School is inviting the community to its first Bingo Night at the school.
“There are going to be 10 games of bingo,” said Jennifer Thompson, a student success teacher at Waterford District High School, noting they will be able to seat 400-450 people at tables in the gymnasium.
“Come and have fun,” said Thompson. “Come and play…come and have a great night out.”
Doors open at 5 pm on May 10, bingo start at 6 pm and there will be cash prizes. The cost is $10 for a 10-page bingo booklet. Bingo dabbers can also be purchased ($3.50).
Yak & Moose food truck will be selling food on site in the parking lot.
“Nicole Pehlke, the owner of the food truck, is a Waterford alumni,” said Thompson.
Student council will be selling ice cream – made from their own ice cream maker, and the school’s cooking program will be making snacks (cookies, etc.) for the event.
“It’s a schoolwide endeavor. I’ve got woodshop students making us a bingo board, and welding students making us a raffle drum. It’s really, really great.”
There will also be a 50-50 raffle.
All funds raised at the community bingo will go to student extracurricular activities at the school.
“I know there is a lot of interest,” said Thompson, who recently promoted the bingo at a Lions Club meeting and has been promoting it on social media. “It’s going to be a really good event and the (fundraising) potential for this is pretty good. Waterford has been fantastic – the support out there is pretty incredible. I think it’s a really good opportunity to welcome the community into the doors of the school.”
If successful, WDHS would like to hold several bingos during a school year.
“There’s no other bingo in this area,” she noted, “and people just love a good bingo.”
