The police and judicial cooperation agencies of the EU, Europol and Eurojust announce in The Hague a large crackdown across Europe and Latin America, targeting members of the Calabrian mafia, the ‘Ndrangheta. This southern Italian mafia is now considered to be the most powerful in the country. At the center of the investigation, a vast drug trade affecting three continents has been dismantled. Thousands of police mobilized this Wednesday and more than a hundred arrests in a dozen countries. A total of 132 people were arrested on both sides of the Atlantic, most of them in Italy but also in Germany.
