On April 9, 52-year-old Anna-Karin Bengtsson, who is in Gran Canaria, talks to a relative on the phone.
It is the latest sign of life from the 52-year-old – who has now been missing for 23 days.
– We are becoming completely desperate. We feel we have to find her, says her little brother Joakim Axling.
The family filed a police report and both Spanish and Swedish police are now involved in the disappearance. Interpol and the Swedish Foreign Ministry have made an international search, but it is mainly the Spanish police who handle the case, says Joakim Axling.
Does not rule out that she has been abducted
The Swedish organization FIKK is also involved in the search.
– We do not rule out that she has been abducted. You work with different theories, especially when there are no clear traces, says Sebastian Ljusdal, press contact at FIKK and continues:
– We are carrying out the search effort on site by, among other things, going through the skull and reviewing “hotspots”, i.e. where she was last located. Then we also work to get flight and boat efforts underway.
“Something has happened to her”
But there are currently no clear indications that it would be a crime, according to Sebastian Ljusdal.
Something the family does not agree with.
– The police in Spain ruled out crime quite quickly, but we don’t. She has not voluntarily disappeared, something has happened to her. We hope with all our hearts that she is kept somewhere, says Joakim Axling.
The family has no signs that she would want to disappear herself. According to them, she had many plans for the future and also booked tickets to visit her family.
– It is the uncertainty that is the worst, not having an answer to what has happened, says Joakim Axling.
“April 4: She does a bank transaction in San Augustin
April 6: Seen in a picture during a fair around 5.30 pm. The church is called Comunidad Evangélica de habla alemana
April 8: Checked in at the hotel Abora Buenaventura by Lopesan.
April 8: Seen on video from a fair around 9:15 p.m. She visits the same church as before. She is wearing a pink skirt, white shirt and beige shoes.
9 April: She leaves the hotel around 12.20. We know that she is sitting and typing on the computer in the hotel lobby. She is wearing a blue dress and a white cardigan.
6:00 p.m. The priest from the church she visited earlier says that he remembers her going to mass. But there are no pictures or videos from this. So cannot be confirmed to one hundred percent.
After this we have no sure leads.”
The timeline is compiled by Anna-Karin’s family.
