Today is the last day to declare and there are about a million who still haven’t done it.
Are you one of them?
Here you will get tips for your last-minute declaration.
Athina Karapanagiotidou, section manager at the Tax Agency, says that it is common not to have declared before 2 May.
– It creates unnecessary stress. If you are out in good time, you can put it aside and enjoy the rest of the day, she says.
But if you are stressed and still have the declaration, there are some tips that Athina Karapanagiotidou would like to share with us.
Declare digitally
If you have e-identification, you can use the e-service. It is too late to post a paper declaration as it should be in by May 2. But if there are pre-printed codes on the declaration, you can call in, text or use the app to declare without having to use the post office.
– Declaring electronically minimizes transmission errors, summation errors, unnecessary errors that occur when preparing a paper declaration, says Athina Karapanagiotidou.
Athina Karapanagiotidou says that if you still want to submit a paper return, the Tax Agency has 39 offices with a temporary mailbox. It can also be handed in at the service offices during regular opening hours.
Report bank account
This is important for those who want to get back the tax. If you miss it, the money is not paid out automatically and then you have to request a payment yourself.
– The money does not disappear, but it remains in the tax account.
Use the Tax Agency’s help services
Some may have put off the declaration because it is complicated, if, for example, you have sold or rented out a private home or want to deduct travel to and from work.
– Then you can easily log in to the e-service, go into the respective appendix and because it is electronic, a lot of information is pre-filled, says Athina Karapanagiotidou.
It is also possible to chat with the Tax Agency, call the tax information office or come into a service office.
Apply for a deferment if you don’t have time
If you will not have time to declare, there is an option to extend the declaration period by two weeks. Everyone can get a reprieve due to not having time, but it is not possible to extend the time beyond May 16.
– If you submit late, you risk paying a late fee. The lowest is SEK 1,250 and the highest is SEK 3,750, depending on how late you are in submitting the return, says Athina Karapanagiotidou.
