Between a quarter and a third of employees in the police feel that they cannot express critical questions. This is shown by an investigation by the authority itself.
– We are aware that there is a culture of silence within the police in some places. We are actively working in several ways to counteract that, says national police chief Anders Thornberg at a press conference.
This is, among other things, about employees not daring to express critical opinions for fear that it will lead to reprimands or have a negative impact on their career.
A series of measures have been taken in recent years to counteract that culture within the authority, says HR manager Fredrik Modigh, but at the same time it is not enough. At the moment, talks are being held between the national police chief, safety representatives and employee organisations, but it is still unclear what the talks will lead to.
– The work is long-term. It’s about creating an open climate free from unhealthy silence, says Fredrik Modigh.
