Aircraft alarms sound in several places in Ukraine, not least in Kiev.
According to unconfirmed information on social media, it is a large-scale bot attack.
A dozen civilians are said to have been injured.
During the night of Monday, several reports of explosions were received around Ukraine.
“There’s a lot of noise outside now. It sounds like Ukraine’s air defense is getting hard at work in Kiev,” writes British ambassador Melinda Simmons on Twitter.
There are also reports of explosions in the Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy regions.
According to Michael Bociurkiw of the Atlantic Council think tank, it appears to be retaliation for a Ukrainian attack on an oil depot on the Crimean Peninsula, he writes on Twitter.
A dozen civilians injured
The state-run Russian news agency Tass reports that Russia hit 140 targets across Ukraine overnight.
Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, signs Twitter that 15 out of 18 Russian rockets fired into Ukrainian airspace were shot down.
“At 02:30 in the morning, Russian occupiers attacked Ukraine with the help of strategic aircraft – nine Tu-95 and two Tu-160,” Zaluzhnyi said in the statement.
According to Sky News, around a dozen civilians have been injured in the attacks.
