So far, quiet Walborg in the student cities

Facts: Valborg and last April

Valborg is the students’ holiday and in the student cities it is celebrated on four days: Skvalborg on April 28, Kvalborg on April 29, Valborg on April 30 and Finalborg on May 1.

In addition, what is known as Catastropheborg is also celebrated on May 2.

Many so-called nations organize various activities and parties during the days.

At Stadsparken in Lund, they started arriving already at seven in the morning. According to the police’s calculations, there were at most 35,000 people in the park celebrating last April, as Walborg is called.

Despite the fact that there were approximately 10,000 more than expected, things have gone smoothly, local police chief Anna-Karin Boije tells South Swedenwithout any major interventions.

— Not according to any information that I have. On the other hand, we have many cases of illegal urination and a large number of cases where we have handled alcohol from minors, says Anna-Karin Boije.

The police have had a relatively quiet election.

In Uppsala, the public celebration did not start quite as early, but the more people joined the traditional cap-donning at 3 p.m. Between 45,000 and 50,000 people had made it to Carolinabacken, according to UNT. During the whole day, approximately 100,000 people are expected to make their way to central Uppsala.

But despite the big celebration, with rafting and picnics in the Economic Park, even the Uppsala police bear witness to a so far relatively ordinary Walborg.

— At 3.45 p.m. today, thirteen people had been taken into custody for drunkenness. But the later it gets, the more alcohol it usually gets. We expect to deal with 70-90 people for drunkenness during the entire Walborg day, says police operations manager Andreas Örth to UNT.
