The old lock suffered from overdue maintenance and has been renovated. The flow of water through the lock has also been increased. The lock formed an obstacle in the supply route of extra water to the western Netherlands. The lock heads have been removed under water and the bridgehead has been shortened. This way there is more space for the water under the water. The contractor is still finishing work in May and June.
