The Minister of Migration: Ukrainian refugees can be registered

Refugees who came to Sweden from Ukraine according to the EU’s mass refugee directive can be registered in Sweden after two years – if the directive is extended another year.
This is what Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) says to TV4 Nyheterna i dag.
– Then they get completely different assets for Swedish welfare.

If the Ukrainian refugees are registered, they will receive a social security number and be given greater access to the Swedish welfare system.
– There is a regulatory framework regarding population registration and on the day they are registered, they receive completely different assets for Swedish welfare. It is the Tax Agency that assesses when it will happen, but there are statements that indicate that it may take two years in Sweden and it is in a relatively short time, says Maria Malmer Stenergard (M), Minister of Migration.

It is likely that the mass flight directive will be extended

In its latest forecast, the Swedish Migration Agency assumes that it is likely that the EU’s mass migration directive will be extended another year, until March 2025.
– This is very old legislation and therefore it is difficult for me to draw any precise conclusions about when they will be registered in the population register, but that possibility exists if they have been here for two years and if the mass migration directive is also extended for the third year. But as I said, it is not me who decides in the end, but authorities and courts, says Maria Malmer Stenergard (M), Minister of Migration.

The statement goes against what the Swedish Migration Agency and the Swedish Tax Agency say, which is that you should not be entered in the population register if you have been granted protection according to the EU’s mass refugee directive.

As it is today, a person becomes a person with temporary protection according to the mass displacement directive not registered in the national register and thus not entitled to a social security number.
