The MMORPG MapleStory has just announced a radical move. The developers will completely remove the Jett class from the game. The reason given is that Jett exists in the global version, but not in the Korean version. Many players now fear for more classes.
What’s happening right now? The global version of MapleStory differs from the one in Korea, where the Nexon developers are based. So there is not only different shop content, but also different bosses, stats and classes.
The global MapleStory has about 5 classes of its own, which never appeared in the Korean original. But that always leads to problems, as has now been revealed in the official forum. Because even though Jett doesn’t exist in Korea, the developers had to take her and the other classes into consideration when balancing new content. They did that at Jett for 11 years.
MapleStory offers – across the versions – more than 50 different classes. Getting a good balance is very difficult.
In addition, there are said to have been bugs that have just affected Jett. That’s why the decision has now been made to disable Jett’s character creation with immediate effect and to completely delete the class in February 2024.
Players fear that the other classes could also be deleted
What happens to the created characters? There will be a “Jett Job Transfer” in the summer. This should allow players to convert their character into another class. However, the conversion is limited to 15 selected classes.
This preserves the character’s game progress. In addition, a solution is currently being worked on as to how the equipment can be retained. There will be more details on this “later”.
How are the players reacting? Especially players who have Jett as the main character are not enthusiastic about the change. For example, some are demanding back the money they invested in the character.
However, the players of the other “non-Korean” classes are also concerned. Because there is no guarantee that they will not face the same fate in the future. The user Mission-Indication96 writes in Reddit: “This is a really bad sign for all classes that do not exist in Korea.”
The cute MMORPG appeared in the West in 2005 and has had an eventful history ever since. On Steam, where the MMORPG only appeared in 2013, more than 7,000 players log in at the same time every day. The MapleStory Global account is followed by nearly a million people on Facebook. So the game does have a fan base here in the West who aren’t at all excited about the new change.
In addition, there are always sweet stories from the game, like here a boss with 720,000,000,000,000 life points:
In the MMORPG MapleStory, a boss was so strong that it took players more than half a year to defeat him
