Two people died at the Gaîté metro station on April 26 after being hit by a metro train. An investigation has been opened but the police favor the track of an argument between the two individuals.
A man and a woman died during the night of Wednesday April 26 to Thursday April 27, 2023 at the Gaîté station of line 13 of the Paris metro. According to the RATP, the drama took place around 00:45 in this stop in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. A police source from Parisian indicates that “a man and a woman visibly homeless and who seemed drunk, would have argued on the platform of this metro in the direction of Châtillon”. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of this fatal accident.
The daily argues that its source favors the scenario of an argument as being the origin of the accident. The surveillance cameras allowed the police to find out more. A woman is seen voluntarily placing herself on the rails then the man joined her. As the metro train approached, the two individuals tried to get back up, but they were hit before being dragged several meters between the platform and the train. At 1:15 a.m., the emergency services declared their death.
The woman has been identified – she was 38 – unlike the man at this stage of the investigation. This tragedy is the second fatal accident in less than a week in the Paris metro. Last Saturday, a 45-year-old woman was pulled over by line 6 at Bel-Air station when her jacket got stuck in the door in front of her family.
The police force specifies to the Parisian that a hundred travelers were present during the tragedy. Among them were 38 German schoolchildren. Four of them were taken in by the relief forces due to psychological distress.
The driver of the train was tested for alcohol and narcotics. The results were negative. The man said he was very shocked by the accident. In a press release, “the RATP would like to express its deep emotion following the fatal accident.”
