Sony makes a decision to boost sales of its reality

Launched on February 23, the PlayStation VR 2 would not meet the expected success, if we rely on the figures revealed by Bloomberg, which announced 270,000 copies sold worldwide in one month of operation. If these figures turn out to be correct, then we would be far from the estimates of Sony Interactive Entertainment, which hoped to sell 2 million in the first weeks of sales. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Sony would then have reduced its production by 20% for the year 2023, in order to limit the breakage and the disinterest of the general public for virtual reality. But Sony does not intend to let it go and has decided to launch action plan n°2 which consists of opening up sales of its virtual reality headset to other retailers.

This was not yet the case, the exclusivity of sales being done so far on the site https://direct.playstation.com/fr-fr/. A subtle way to try to boost sales of this PSVR 2, whose qualities are certainly undeniable, but whose price put off many players, who preferred to bet on games than an additional accessory. It is true that offering an accessory at €600 (without game) was a risky strategy, the headset was more expensive than the PS5 console, sold for €449.99 in its version without Blu-ray players, and €549.99 for the edition with disc player… It is therefore difficult to rally the troops around such a product which seems intended only for an elite, those who have the finances.
