He is one of the SHL’s greatest players ever.
Now he returns to the league.
The HV71 icon is said to be getting a new job within his parent club.
Few players can measure up to Johan Davidsson in terms of SHL merits. He played a total of 17 seasons in HV71, eleven of which as team captain, and he is classified as perhaps the league’s greatest player of all time, along with Joel Lundqvist and Jörgen Jönsson.

In total, there were four SM golds with the Jönköping team, and after the active playing career, he continued in HV71 but on the leader’s side. Davidsson went straight to assistant general manager, a role he held until 2021, when for the first time in his life he almost left HV71.
HV71 has had a somewhat turbulent time in the SHL since the return, but for next year it is clear that Tomas Montén is the head coach together with Pelle Gustafsson, who saved the team from the qualifying games in the spring. But it has not been clear who will be the assistant coach for both of them. But now at least one name seems to be clear – and it’s not just any name.

Returning to HV
According to Expressen, Johan Davidsson is ready for the role of assistant coach, where he will mainly be responsible for the team’s forward side. This means that HV71 next season will have two coaches in the booth with their jerseys hoisted to the ceiling, in the form of Davidsson and Pelle Gustafsson.
Johan Davidsson left HV71 after the club was shockingly forced to leave the SHL for games in the Hockeyallsvenskan. Davidsson believes that he felt bad during the last year, and Davidsson was sometimes criticized for his lack of cooperation with the then sporting director Johan Hult. Now Kent Norbert is sports manager, and then Davidsson gets to return – this time to the booth.
