Bungie is always looking for new talent to further develop upcoming projects. One of those talents was Derick Tsai, a former Disney employee. He should promote Destiny 2 and establish the brand in other media such as TV series or comics, but plans have changed.
Who is Derick Tsai? This is a Senior Development Executive with more than 15 years of professional experience. His specialty is building global entertainment franchises and universes in popular media (animation, gaming, film, TV, streaming, comics, publishing).
Among them was Bungie with Destiny. Derick was therefore appointed Sr. Development Executive | Hired Head of Destiny Universe Transmedia, but now he’s silently departing Bungie in March 2023.

Bungie wants to expand Destiny, but loses its boss for Transmedia after 15 months
What is Bungie’s plan? With its story and characters in the universe, Destiny 2 has great potential to exist outside of gaming. Bungie has recognized this and would therefore like to further expand the brand itself. Fans have therefore speculated that Bungie is not secretly working on a TV series that deals with stories within the Destiny universe.
Various talents, including Derick Tsai, could therefore be recruited to work for Bungie and do creative work as a team. And although Tsai has shown promise and even worked for Disney and Riot, his path at Bungie ended in March 2023 without any statement.
However, the interesting thing is that in his LinkedIn work experience (via linkedin.com) a post from Forbes with the topic “anime series for Destiny 2” is linked (via forbes.com). This could indicate that Derick was working on such a project, which is still officially secret.
A teaser of what the community is expecting? Paul Tassi’s contribution basically addresses what the community has also theorized – a series on Destiny. According to Tassi, however, Bungie could work on an anime instead of a TV series with real people. So there’s a good chance that Derick Tsai teased Forbes’ post to draw attention to something that might appear in the future.
One thing is clear, Bungie has a talent for illustrating story in its seasons of Destiny 2. Backstories like Saint-14 or Zavala were often presented in this format and were well received by the community. So it’s quite possible that Bungie is planning an anime in exactly this form.
