For several days, fighting has been going on between the armed groups that rule Sudan. Civilians have been caught in the crossfire and hundreds are reported to have been killed in the attacks, according to Christophe Sacko.
Sacko, who is stationed at the Medical Mission’s regional center in Nairobi, Kenya, is responsible for the evacuation of the organization’s staff.
– We have managed to evacuate all twelve employees from Khartoum. But that does not mean in any way that we will abandon Sudan, he says.
He explains that the decision is made to allow certain personnel who work in less vulnerable areas of Sudan to remain in the country in order to investigate ways to assist with humanitarian aid.
