Despite the fact that midfielder Sergio Peña was arrested last Tuesday night for drunk driving and illegal driving in central Malmö, he started for MFF when the Skåne beat IFK Norrköping 3-0 in the Allsvenskan on Monday.
— Of course, that incident is unacceptable in itself. We have then had conversations with the player and based on that information we have taken measures and disciplinary measures, says MFF CEO Niclas Carlnén.
Don’t want to comment
TT: What kind of disciplinary measures are these?
— I will not comment on it. It is between us and the worker, the player.
TT: It was not in question that he would be suspended from games?
— Not with the information we have now and not based on how we have handled other situations in the past over the years.
Peña has stated to Expressen that he admitted drunk driving. A legal process is now pending.
— We will of course follow it, then we’ll see if any other information comes out than what we have today. As it stands now, we have nothing to go on but the information we have.
“Always a balance”
Sports manager Daniel Andersson has previously been interviewed about the incident, but MFF has not issued any public comment on, for example, its website about what has happened.
— It is still the case that here it is the employer and the employee. That’s where the relationship is and that’s where the information is. I don’t want to and can’t go public with it either. I don’t think that’s right either. It is always a balance to try to be clear enough and show the seriousness of it without going into details, says Niclas Carlnén.
