Ukraine declares a state of emergency and gives its citizens

Ukraine has begun recruiting reservists between the ages of 18 and 60 for up to a year.

The Security Council of Ukraine declares a state of emergency due to the threat of Russian invasion. The state of emergency applies to the whole country, with the exception of the separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.

The state of emergency lasts for 30 days and can be extended. The state of emergency allows, among other things, enhanced vehicle inspections.

The country’s parliament has yet to formally approve the declaration.

Earlier, the Ukrainian parliament passed a bill that gives civilians the right to carry weapons in self-defense. According to the proposal, the law is needed because of the dangers facing the Ukrainians.

Ukraine has also begun recruiting reservists between the ages of 18 and 60. The maximum service period is one year.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said the reservists had been called yesterday, but the military said in a statement today the details.

At the same time, Ukraine has urged its citizens to leave Russia immediately and not to travel to Russia.
