9 eruptions in the last 24 hours at Popocatepetl Volcano in Mexico

According to the daily activity report of Popocatepetl Volcano published by Mexico’s National Center for Disaster Prevention (CENAPRED), 9 new eruptions took place in the volcano in the last 24 hours, and gas and ash output were recorded 293 times. While it was reported in the report that the ash coming out of the mouth of the volcano spread towards the south and southeast directions with the effect of the wind, it was advised to the residents of the settlements in this direction to take precautions against ash rains that are harmful to health.

Authorities also pointed out that the explosive activity in Popocatepetl Volcano will continue on a moderate scale and warned citizens to stay away from the volcano’s crater.

Popocatepetl Volcano, where eruptions occur almost every day in the last days, has increased the number of eruptions this year to 376, together with what happened today. During 2022, there were 113 eruptions in the volcano.
Popocatepetl Volcano, which has seen an increase in activity for over a year, ranks fifth among volcanoes that are expected to have a major eruption in the next few years, according to scientists from the University of Manchester.
